Substituting parts is not the same as matching them

Manufacturers specify every component on a door for a reason, and the trade's guidance on substitution is explicit that visual similarity does not establish equal strength, that differences in material thickness, composition and strength cannot be identified by eye, and that substituting components on a tested or wind-load-rated door can weaken the assembly. Corrosion resistance is part of that specification too, which matters in a climate with fifty to fifty-five inches of rain a year.
